MEET YOUR SDSRC BOARD OF DIRECTORS
PRESIDENT
KAYLA SALONEN
Kayla is a clinical and lab instructor for the South Dakota State University Respiratory Care program in Sioux Falls with a clinical practice site at Sanford Medical Center. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Morningside College, she attended Dakota State University and graduated with her Associate’s degree in Respiratory Care in 2015. Since obtaining her licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in 2015, she has worked for Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls and became a clinical instructor in May of 2021. Throughout her years at Sanford, she has been oriented to all critical care areas including neonatal, pediatric, adult, the emergency room and AirMed's flight team. She is currently a Neonatal ICU Core team member, preceptor, and in 2020 she obtained her Neonatal-Pediatric Specialist licensure. She completed her Master’s in Business Administration in May of 2024. In her free time, she enjoys staying active at the farm, on the softball field, the lake and the gym.

ASHLEY HERRON
My name is Ashley Herron and I’m excited to continue with the SDSRC! I currently work in the RT Department at Monument Health in Rapid City. I have been with Monument Health for over 20 years. On days off form work I enjoy taking spending time with my family, being outdoors with our dogs, gardening and camping.
I hope to continue the growth of the SDSRC and look forward to meeting everyone this year at the annual business meeting and conference being held this year in Rapid City!

PAIGE HANSEN
I've been a Respiratory Therapist for 7 years in Rapid City, SD. I currently work as a Respiratory Clinical Specialist at Monument Health. I have been oriented to all critical care areas including neonatal, pediatric, adult, and the emergency room. I have been a NRP instructor since 2022. I have obtained my adult critical care specialist licensure in May of 2024.
TREASURER
JENNIFER HAMMOND
Jennifer has been a Respiratory Therapist for 16 years here in Rapid City, SD. She has worked for Monument Health as an RT intern to a RT Supervisor. She currently works in Safety and Quality as a Safety and Risk Manager Specialist. She has a loving husband, Bob, and a fur baby named Noodles. In her free time she enjoys taking Noodles for walks and going to the movies.

ASHLEY FRERICHS
Ashley is a supervisor at Monument Health for Outpatient Respiratory Therapy and Home Medical. She holds an associate’s in Respiratory Care, a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management and an MBA in Healthcare Administration. She has been an RRT for 10 years and holds an RPFT Credential. Ashley has been on the BOD for over 6 years. She is a mom of four very active boys and spends her free time watching her kids’ sporting events, hanging with her family, and staying active.

MARISSA TROSEN
Marissa is the Program Director for South Dakota State University’s Respiratory Care program. She graduated from Dakota State University with her associate degree in Respiratory Care in 2013 followed by her bachelor’s degree in 2014. In 2021, Marissa earned her Master of Public Health degree, and in 2024, she was admitted to Northeastern University where she is currently pursuing her Doctor of Medical Science in Healthcare Leadership degree. Marissa has over a decade of work experience in a rural critical access hospital where she directly cared for patients in all continuums of care. She also has experience in healthcare leadership where she was responsible for quality improvement, laboratory, radiology, therapy services, and respiratory care. In addition to her board position with the SDSRC, Marissa also serves on the South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners. In her spare time, Marissa enjoys spending time with family and traveling, and she enjoys all things volleyball.
